The Escape

But where do I go? My parents cut me off a long time ago, and I have no siblings. I don't have any friends to turn to, only associates.

If I'm running away, I need a way off this island. I check my phone for a route to the coast, and it dawns on me everyone phones has a tracking device. I commit the route to memory, and throw the phone on the ground in a panic, destroying it with my heel. My bike is out back, I can use that to escape under the cover of the rain. I cycle away from my place, duffel back secure on my back, using backroads and alleys to avoid detection. The siren sounds fade.

Five hours of cycling later and I'm at the coast. I find a ship scheduled for the next island over and buy a ticket for passage. There is nothing on this island left for me. My associates are burned. At least I can find a different island, with different ideals that will let me live the future I'm looking for. I depart, no turning back.

...

I clutched my duffel bag close as we arrived, looking for comfort in my belongings within this new environment. First things first, I need a new phone. It would be suspicious if I didn't have one after all. I buy one, and use it to look for a new place to live. While settling in, I was astounded to see this island's upvote count on vaccine legalization: more than 300k upvotes. Not only that, but they also allow children to inherit from their parents. I'm shocked. I can actually make an honest living here, and I can raise a legacy on it. Why didn't I make the move sooner?

The vaccines I made over the years were able to help many people who were happy to recieve them. I made more than I could have ever dreamed doing so too. The family I made will be secure with the inheritance I will leave them. It all turned out just as I had hoped.

There's other ways this could've played out.
