Plain Sight

But where do I go? My parents cut me off a long time ago, and I have no siblings. I don't have any friends to turn to, only associates.

BANG. BANG. BANG. The door shakes.

"Police! We have a warrant!" They bellowed from beyond it.

I need to hide NOW. I keep my bag close as I look around my room for a spot to stay in until the coast is clear. I'll consider my other options once I get out of this situation. I spot the pile of empty boxes my lab equipment came to me in. One of them may just be big enough to fit me. I kept telling mysef I'd take them out one day, but now I'm glad I hadn't. I hop in and try to control my breathing.

They bust in, barely missing the sight of any movement. They call my name as they search the place up and down. Miraculously, they leave the pile of boxes I was in alone, but it's only a matter of time before they take all my stuff for evidence. I know I can't keep hiding here. I wait for 10 minutes after they stop searching and clear out, climbing out of the box as quietly as I could in case there were still some officers patrolling.

As I sneak slowly crack open the back door though, my phone alarm starts to go off. "SHIT!" I thought, "How could I forget the tracking feature on our phones?!" Officers from outside come rushing in, called by the noise.

"STOP!" They cry out. I sprint out the back exit, the door slamming against the wall as I whipped it open. I can't say I was ever a runner though, as almost immediately my pursuers catch up to me in almost no time. I'm apprehended and charged with the manufacturing and distribution of vaccines, sentenced to the fullest extent of the law. It was like the jury was full of people that upvoted the original banning. Unfortunately, with our island's attitude towards vax, the future I want doesn't seem like the future we'll have.

There's other ways this could've played out.
